When Billy Tucci announced that his latest project was going to be the story of Mary and Joseph, I knew it would be good. After all, Billy pours his heart and soul into every project so why would this be any different?

WOW!

‘A Child Is Born’ is the greatest story ever told! Mary and Joseph are having a baby, but not just any baby… the baby Jesus! Based on the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, ‘A Child Is Born’ chronicles the struggles of the young couple as they deal with this unexpected gift and the situations they find themselves in. Confused, hunted and treated bad, the couple survive every obstacle and in the end deliver a pretty amazing little guy!

The art by Billy is absolutely amazing! I feel like I say after every new project, that Billy has outdone himself and once again… he has. Every panel is filled with love and detail and some of the most incredible work you’ll see in a comic book. ‘A Child Is Born’ has no battles, no scantly clad Japanese warriors, but does have a two page nativity scene that is breathtaking; cows, sheep, donkey, wise men and a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes.

Proudly I handed the book to my fellow chaplains and co workers (at the Springfield Rescue Mission) and to hear them raving about its look and accuracy made me proud like I had something to do with it. Not only did they love the story and art, but were impressed with the incredible quality especially the pages. Now they all want their own copies.

The creative team is rounded out by colorist Paul Mounts, Bill Tortolini (letters) and Mark Sparacio (who helps Billy turn in a stunning cover) all make this book so special. Included are a few pages of text; one by author Rick Larson (‘The Star of Bethlehem’) and another by Billy himself help to bring science fact and the emotions that are behind the creation of this book. Amazing stuff!

‘A Child Is Born’ is the first book from Apostle Arts and I certainly hope not the last. 32 pages for only $5.99 make this the perfect gift for anyone who loves the story and or loves comics.

Beautifully drawn and historically accurate, let ‘A Child Is Born’ become a part of your holiday traditions.

Matman Rating: 5 out of 5 Magi and their gifts
