For years I have always wanted to read the Incredible Hulk, but never felt I could just jump in! So here we are with Incredible Hulk # 1!
The book starts out in a very unfamiliar territory for the Hulk and that is peace! As he fights monsters in the center of the earth and feels a certain bonding with inner earth folks the moment is interrupted when the U.S. Government comes looking for the Hulk to hunt down someone dangerous…Bruce Banner!
Written by Jason Aaron, this tale is a great book for fans to jump right into! Jason makes it simple with an easy to follow story complete with serious monster fighting action and some cool twists and turns. This is a great introduction with a lot going on, but as you read, you see the story is going to be a slow burn.
Artist Marc Silvestri turns in a typical book for him; big and full of cool poses and so much larger than life… like the Hulk is. His style (very Image like) would not fit on a book like Moon Knight or Spider - Man, but here bigger is so much better!
Michael Broussard (pencil assists), inkers Joe Weems, Rick Basaluda and Sal Regala and colorists Sunny Gho round out the visual team and all together turn into a book that is stunningly pleasing on the eyes!
So yes, you can pick this up with no need to know the 50 plus years of the Hulk! Here, the Hulk is the empathetic character and as you’ll see on the last pages Bruce Banner is a sort of mad scientist! So who knows where this book will go, but I’m ready for the ride!
Matman Rating: 4 out of 5 cute little mole dudes!
