What do you think aboout what DiDio had to say?
This past weekend at Baltimore Comic-Con, Dan DiDio took a moment before the DC Nation panel to address the recent controversy surrounding the creative team leaving Batwoman. You can watch the video of what he had to say below. From what DiDio saying, the issue isn't necessarily about gay marriage, but the idea that superheroes shouldn't have happy personal lives to begin with. You could certainly make the case DC is anti-marriage when it comes to heroes in general in the New 52, as evidenced by Superman and Lois, Barry and Iris, and even Aquaman and Mera--none of them are married in the New 52.
What do you think aboout what DiDio had to say? by Matman Over the past few weeks we longtime DC fans have had some of the best moments in recent memory with the reimurgence of the Crime Syndicate! But many readers didn't quite feel the impact because they have no idea who this 'anti Justice League is. So let me give you a quick lesson on who the team is, and where they came from. Way back in 1964, the Crime Syndicate made their debut in Justice League of America #29. The team came from Earth Three, a place where bad ruled the planet. On Earth Three, Columbus discovered Europe, the British fought America for their independence and President John Wilkes Booth was assasinated by Abe Lincoln. Crazy, eh? How about the planets only hero is LEX LUTHOR!!! In their debut, the Crime Syndicate was bored with how easy it was to rule their planet and was looking for another challenge. They discovered Earth One and Earth Two and decided their challenge would be in conquering those worlds. In 1985, the Crime Syndicate and Earth Three were some of the first victims of the Anti Monitor in the classic Crisis On Infinite Earths. The original team was made up of Ultraman (Superman's counterpart), Superwoman (Wonder Woman), Power Ring (Green Lantern) , Owl Man (Batman) and Johnny Quick (Flash). The current new 52 group is rounded out by Deathstorm (Firesorm), Sea King (Aquaman) and Atomika. In last weeks 'Forever Evil' # 1, it is obvious that this team is willing to push the envelope and look like they are willing to do whatever it takes to make their dreams of dominating another earth. If you didn't pick up this book, or haven't read it...GO NOW AND FIX THIS! Pure magic, DC!!! Thank You! Today is the day, people. The first Sunday of the NFL regular season. This week, BOOM! sent out this visual press release teasing a new imprint. No one is sure quite what it means yet, but I have an inkling, and I hope I'm right. I think this is going to be a creator-owned imprint akin to Image, where BOOM! is going to invite creators of all types of comics to participate. The visual has the feel of raw creation without boundaries. This cold be a big move by a publisher we already love. More details as they become available. What do you think Boom Box could be? by Matman I love super groups! Why? Because I love when musicians from different bands and styles meld their talents into a new sound and energy. Sadly most groups like this cause more interest due to the members and the music and when something is released they are already broken up or the finished product just doesn't quite cut it. So lets talk about the music shall me? The self titled debut from the Winery Dogs is one burner of a disc. Despite the band members pedigree, these songs are songs that kick like classic Humble Pie, Bad Company and I think I even here a little Lenny Kravitz, but still sound incredibly modern. From the firat single 'Elevate' to the last track 'Regret', this is one of the most complete and satisfying records of 2013. 'Desire', 'Not Hopeless',and 'Im No Angel' all get the blood flowing, but for me the standout track is the slow but powerful 'You Saved Me'. So now lets talk about the band. Led by guitarist / vocalist Richie Kotzen is the biggest unknown for me. Sure I know that he replaced C.C. DeVille in Poison way back in 1992 but I knew nothing of his solo work. That will change! On bass is one of the greats, Billy Sheehan, who fills out the sound like only he can. On drums is the one and only Mike Portnoy who has traded in his big, symphonic sound for a more straight ahead rock sound...and I like it. This album reminds me of the first ASIA album way back in 1982; not in sound produced but in the control the musicians display to make the songs the top priority. When you have musicians as talented as these three, it must be hard to not wanna just let loose. So run to your local record shop (mine is Music Outlet in Enfield, CT) and get this one. It'll make you remember why you liked music in the first place. to find out more go to http://www.thewinerydogs.com/ Matman Rating: 5 out of 5 MUST gets !!! GET YOUR NASHVILLE COMIC CON TICKETS HERE! GET YOUR AUSTIN COMIC CON TICKETS HERE! by Brian LeTendre With issue #15 of Superior Spider-Man, Dan Slott continues to make Otto Octavius' time behind the mask fascinating while also reminding us what we love and miss about Peter Parker. A big theme with Slott’s Spider-Ock run is that Otto is willing to do things as Spider-Man that Peter would never do. He’s an “ends justifies the means” kind of Spider-Man, and nowhere was that more evident than in the last issue, where Spidey led an armed assault on the Kingpin and Shadowland. The Hobgoblin (Phil Urich) got caught up in the middle of that battle and barely escaped. As we see in this issue though, Hobgoblin’s reprieve is short-lived, as Spider-Ock is determined to take him down, in the most public way possible. I can’t overstate how much fun Superior Spider-Man has been from the start. Slott is having a ball with Otto as Peter Parker, and the art team of Humberto Ramos and Victor Olazaba infuse Otto’s Spidey with the perfect combination of attitude and humor. Slott seems to play to the strengths of the different artists on the book, and this issue is no exception. It’s a great team effort. I’ve said it a thousand times before, but if you’re not reading Superior Spider-Man, you’re missing out on one of the most fun books out there. 4.5 out of 5 Hobgoblins on the Run |
