BOOM! Studios is proud to announce THE UNSOUND, an all-new original comic book series from writer Cullen Bunn (X-Men: Blue, Deadpool, The Sixth Gun) and artist Jack T. Cole. Debuting in June, The Unsound follows the journey of Ashli, a young woman caught in the middle of a strange supernatural conspiracy that reveals to her a much more terrifying version of our world than she ever imagined.

Ashli’s first day as a nurse at Saint Cascia Psychiatric Hospital turns into a nightmare as a bloody riot sends her fleeing into the bowels of the hospital. As this unsettling descent takes her to a hellish world populated by lunatics and monsters, cloaked in a secret history of black magic and heinous scientific experiments, she’s forced to ask one horrifying question: Is there such a thing as sanity?

“The Unsound is a surreal, scary story, full of chilling encounters and haunting experiences, and it delves deep into the nature of reality, perception and insanity,” says Bunn, whose The Empty Man graphic novel from BOOM! Studios will be released as a feature film from 20th Century Fox. “It's territory that I find myself drawn to frequently, and in many ways, this is a sister series to The Empty Man. Here, though, we're exploring a new landscape and developing a new horrific mythos.”

Cole adds, “As an artist, working with Cullen Bunn's creative genius for horror offers up many exciting opportunities to visually explore the genre."

The Unsound is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ eponymous imprint, home to ambitious original series such as Victor LaValle’s Destroyer by Victor LaValle and Dietrich Smith; Godshaper by Simon Spurrier and Jonas Goonface; Grass Kings by Matt Kindt and Tyler Jenkins; Klaus by Grant Morrison and Dan Mora; The Woodsby James Tynion IV and Michael Dialynas; and Irredeemable by Mark Waid and Peter Krause.

“Working with Cullen on The Empty Man was one of my favorite experiences of recent years, so I jumped at the chance to help usher in his next horror classic,” said Eric Harburn, Editor, BOOM! Studios. “A cerebral, unsettling tale of an asylum on the brink of hysteria, The Unsound is also a showcase for Jack T. Cole—your new favorite artist.”
