In tomorrow's episode of Secret Identity, the Out of the Longbox will be the first issue of Fearless Defenders, a great series that actually ended this week with issue #12.
The book featured Valkyrie forming a new group of Shield Maidens from the ranks of some of the coolest female characters in the Marvel U, while introducing some great new characters among the way. For me, it was in many ways an extension of Heroes for Hire, a franchise that has had various incarnations over the past several years, but never found one that really stuck.
And so here we are again, with an original and entertaining series failing to find its audience and getting canceled after merely 12 issues. Nobody is more bummed about that than the creative team behind the book, and this week, writer Cullen Bunn wrote a great blog post about how the series came together, how it evolved, and where it might have gone.
Among the tidbits of info that Bunn reveals is a laundry list of possible Marvel heroes that could have been a part of the series at one point, including Dazzler, Arana, Savage She-Hulk and Rescue (Pepper Potts).
You can read his entire post here, and the Marvel AR video below, while tiny bit spoilery, gives you a great idea of the series premise. If you haven't checked out Fearless Defenders, I would highly recommend grabbing the trades.
