A few weeks ago I wrote about a new monthly subscription service called Four Color Grails. Unlike a lot of other "loot box" type services, this one was aimed squarely at comic collectors, delivering four exclusive variant issues (grails) per month to their subscribers. This weekend I got a chance to check out the April box from Four Color Grails, and I came away very impressed. The outer packaging is a white box with the FCG logo on the side, which protects the very nice slip-covered black box on the inside. The inside box that houses the comics opens book-style, and has a magnetic strip to hold it closed. It's very slick and well-presented. But all that great packaging doesn't mean anything if the covers aren't worth it. Luckily, that wasn't a problem, as the covers themselves were great. Marvel's Secret Wars, Dark Horse's Archie vs. Predator, Valiant's Bloodshot Reborn and Oni's Rick and Morty. This month's box hit to all fields with publishers big and small, and offered a little something for all types of comic fans. What's even cooler is that the comics are marked exclusive to FCG right on the cover. Even better, the backs featured the FCG logo and space for a sketch, if you were so inclined. All in all, I'm really impressed with what Four Color Grails is doing with their subscription box. They offer 1-month ($29.99) and 3-month ($26.95/mo) plans, and you can purchase previous boxes for $44.95 (while they last, I assume). If you're into variant covers, FCG seems like a great way to get some exclusives for your collection.
