Today began the latest DC event... FUTURES END! Today... I bought no DC comics. Shocked? Not as shocked as I am. This must be a first... not one DC book.
Last May, DC began it's weekly FUTURES END series. A long
term weekly comic that would jump ahead five years into the
DC Universe with a huge monthly event in September. Well to be honest; nine issues into the series I was not only bored and confused, but I realized I was buying books I didn't even enjoy. So I walked away fro FUTURES END with no regret. I wasn't worried that people were gonna be talking about it and I would feel like I was missing something.
But I wasn't missing anything!
My biggest problem with Futures END is that it is moving into a possible future of world (the New 52) that I still haven't quite surrendered too. It seems that as time goes on in the New 52 I am becoming less enamored with it. Sure there are great books like the Batman family, the FLASH, SUPERMAN (since Johns and Romita showed up) and I don't feel like investing time and money into its possible future. I kinda feel like DC needs to stabilize the line before they jump into an event and not just an event... a financial investment!
So this week as I looked at the shelves of my shop I thought, "wow do these covers look amazing!" Then I saw the price, flipped thru the issues and just said no!
Please don't think I'm asking you to boycott FUTURES END because I'm not. We have a lot of friends working on these titles
as well as a lot of store owners who don't want to be stuck with a pile of lenticular 3-D covers.
Instead of just buying what I didn't want to I took a chance on some other stuff, like some Wolverine comics that take place in World War One! Still spent the same money and bought my usual ten books every Wednesday, it was just a different ten!
