IGN has a great article up on their site today highlighting their top 25 Spider-Man stories. As a big Spidey fan, I was eager to see whether or not my faves would be on their list, and I wasn't disappointed.
Coming in at #20 was Joe Kelly and Max Fiumara's fantastic two-part Rhino story that appeared in issues #617 and 625 of Amazing Spider-Man. The story follows the original Rhino Aleksei Sytsevich, who has found love and is trying to lead a normal life. Despite Peter's best efforts to help Aleksei, he gets pulled back into being the Rhino when his would-be successor wreaks havoc on Aleksei's new life. It's a brutal, heartbraking story, and it's my second favorite Spidey tale.
My number one showed up at #6 on IGN's list--Kraven's Last Hunt. In this legendary story, Kraven not only completely defeats Spider-Man, he essentially becomes him. As IGN's Joey Esposito put it, "It’s an exploration of what happens when a villain achieves his ultimate goal. What happens when Kraven utterly defeats Spidey? What would happen if Lex Luthor killed Superman? What if the Joker killed Batman? What would their purpose be then?" Classic stuff.
So head over to IGN and read the full list, which contains a ton of great Spidey tales. Then head to the comments below and let me know what your favorite Spidey stories are.
