This week comic book history will be made with the huge DC event, CONVERGENCE. I read the ‘zero’ issue last night and got incredibly excited at the possibilities. The issue begins to explain how there are many timelines with many possibilities and …well, many Brainiacs. What will the landscape of the DCU look like? Will there be anything ‘Pre – Crisis’ we loved here? Will the best bits of ‘Post – Crisis’ come back? Will the inconsistencies of the ‘New 52’ be cleaned up?
Fresh out of the gate in June we will have a Superman event, TRUTH! The tagline is ‘For Superman, There Is No Holding Back!’ Crossing through all the Superman titles it will introduce Gene Luen Yang, the new writer on SUPERMAN, sadly replacing Geoff Johns.
June will also be ‘Joker Month’ with most of the DC titles featuring variant covers (by some of the best artists in the industry) starring the Joker. Since DC introduced ‘themed monthly covers’ a few months back, I have really enjoyed the choices and different styles offered.
There is a ton of new books being debuted in June; some look real promising like JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA (with Bryan Hitch) and MARTIAN MANHUNTER (art by Eddy Barrows) and others look kinda puzzling.
We don’t know how this CONVERGENCE event will play out, but I applaud DC for doing something different to keep their line fresh and readers as happy as they can be.
