I was a little sad when I read the reports of DC Comics losing money and market share in the post CONVERGANCE world.
As a life long DCer (over 40 years thank you very much) I had become a bit disillusioned with the NEW 52 and the fact that most of the characters were unlikable... especially the younger heroes like the TEEN TITANS. I began to see my pull list have less DC titles in it and this made me sad. These seemed to be a huge push to follow the Marvel business model of total continuity and the expense of story telling.
In the current DC it seems continuity has been chucked out the window and creators are given a chance to tell some amazing stories. How can Green Lantern look classic in JLA but completely different in GREEN LANTERN proper? Who cares!!! Both books are amazing so why should it bother me? When did we get all nutty about continuity? I know it's a 'hot topic' in the industry but I think we should be worried more about the product than trying to force puzzle pieces where they don't fit.
Is it cool that the Marvel cinematic universe is all tied together? Sure it is... but when noting is going on there, TV's AGENTS OF SHIELD sucks! In the New 52 everything fit together quite nicely but stories and characters seemed forced. Superman's secret identity has been exposed, a young girl is running for president in PREZ and none of it fits...
Jimmy Crack Corn And I Don't Care!
Don't get panicky DC and shift back to something many of us found unlikable for the sake of continuity! If the term 'Batgirling' is going to be used to describe out of continuity stories... give me more 'Batgirling'!
