This is a big one and not just because of its large treasury size.
'Superman vs. The Flash' Limited Collectors' Edition (1976 C-48) collects the two races the two heroes had from 'The Flash' # 175 and 'Superman' # 199. The first story written by a young Jim Shooter and drawn by Curt Swan and George and the second written by E. Nelson Bridwell and art by Ross Andru and Mike Esposito. Both stories represent the characters from the time they were printed and never give us a clear winner as to who is the fastest.
In the next 'Out Of The Long Box' segment i go into detail about the fun and magic of this book. But what I don't discuss is how as a young reader who just discovered the Flash, I was mad at Superman.
Why?
Because all Flash had is his speed and the things he can do from it. Superman has it all! Why not let the Flash be the fastest and leave it at that.
The collection also features one of the best comic covers ever; drawn by Jose - Luis Garcia Lopez, Carmine Infantino and Bob Oksner.
This collection may not be the deepest or most important stories in all of Flashdom, but it is an incredibly fun book which for me, contains a ton of great memories.
