Norton and Costa Bring Xevious From Console to Comic Page

I am a big fan of Mike Norton. From Green Arrow / Black Canary to Young Justice to his amazing webcomic Battlepug, Mike brings an energy and sense of whimsy to his art that is missing from a lot of comics today. He also happens to be a great guy who’s a blast to talk to.

So it’s not like I needed another reason to be part of the Mike Norton fanclub, but I got one anyway. Namco Bandai, a video game publisher whose games I’ve grow up playing, launched a brand new webcomic site called ShiftyLook last week. The site features comics based on Namco Bandai properties both new and old. And it just so happens that Mr. Norton is drawing a comic based on the 1982 vertical shooter Xevious.

Yes, this Xevious:

An artist I really like drawing a webcomic based on a game I grew up playing is more than enough to get me reading Xevious, but I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the comic is being written by Mike Costa, of GI Joe: Cobra and Blackhawks fame.

So, even if you’re not a gamer, the top notch creative team on Xevious should be reason enough to give it a try. The comic is updated on Sundays and Thursdays, and the first few pages are up now over on the ShiftyLook website.

While you’re there, you can check out the other comics based on Bravoman (TurboGrafx 16), Alien Confidential (iOS), and an old favorite of mine, Sky Kid (NES). There will be more comics forthcoming as well, so ShiftyLook is a site I’ll be keeping an eye on.
