NYCC--Day One

Day one of New York Comic Con is in the books, and as expected, it was a blast. My day started before the show even opened, as I was lucky enough to interview writer Jonathan Larsen about one of my favorite comics of the past year, The Endling. Once the floodgates opened, I tried to get over to the Toy Tokyo booth for their exclusive Freddy and Jason figures. But with the line being over and hour and a half long, it wasn't to be.

So, most of my time yesterday was spent on the show floor, taking in all the sights, and over at the Monarch Comics booth. And the biggest thing that struck me was just how packed this Thursday was. From the second the doors opened until they closed at 7PM, the show floor was full. Events and creator signings were happening all over the place--below you can see Todd McFarlane hanging out with fans at the McFarlane Toys booth.

One place I didn't get to spend a lot of time at in is Artist Alley. My plan for Friday is to make the rounds over there, and get a bunch of intereviews for the podcast. I'll have more pics to post as well, but below is a gallery of some of the sights from day one of NYCC.

Looks like a blast. I wonder, if I were to go to a Con some day, if a Con like that would be too big to really enjoy it. What do the peeps think?

I have been to NY twice. Probably won't go again. Unless it is Thursday or Friday, it is elbow to elbow. I would pick a smaller show, like Pittsburgh or Baltimore (those are near my end of the country), which are still big enough to get the big names.

Yeah, I'm in the AK, so getting to a show is pretty hard. I want one big enough to be worth my time but not too big to be a waist of time. Stumptown in Portland, OR or Emerald City in Seattle. My brother lives in Portland so...
