Until last summer I never
had a friend or anyone
I knew die while serving
our country. Last
June America was shocked by another senseless
shooting; this one at
an Armed Forces Recruitment Center in Tennessee. One of the 4 slain was Gunnery Sgt. Thomas Sullivan of Hampden, MA.
Sullivan was an American hero; serving two tours in Iraq, won 2 Purple hearts and was in his 18th year in uniform. One of the saddest and proudest moments in my life was watching the procession returning him home; police, motorcycle gangs, military escorts... the sad last trip of an American hero.
I saw his sister a few weeks ago and she is still devastated by the loss but told me her brother wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
Remember those who have fallen and pray for no more!
