If there was any doubt about Tom King's ability to follow Scott Snyder's legendary Batman run, it was put to rest with the fifth issue of Batman.
Gotham and Gotham Girl started as two heroes inspired by Batman, but Psycho-Pirate turned Gotham from hero to villain in one exchange, and took Gotham Girl off the board, albeit temporarily.
In this fifth issue, we see Gotham hell bent on destroying the city he named himself after, and Batman using every trick and tool at his disposal to stop Gotham's rampage. It's a fantastic climax to a great first arc, and features a couple of great twists that had me smiling as i read them.
David Finch's artwork is wonderful as expected, and Jordie Bellaire's colors lend both a weight and a sense of sadness to how the story plays out.
I am not a huge Batman fan, but Tom King's run so far it at the top of my pull list. It's that good.
