The Endling is a mind-bending story that begins with a simulation program being run by the CDC to try and cure diseases. The program simulates billions of years of human evolution. One day the program simulates the birth of what could be the last human being. The child has evolved to the point that it can communicate through the computer simulation to real human beings in our world. It makes contact with a high school science student and convinces her to help it make the transition to our world. There’s just one problem--the child is basically a super-powered killing machine that will probably bring about the end of the world.
There are currently ten chapters up on Thrillbent that you can read for free. Larsen’s story is expertly-paced, and reads like a good movie. Latalla’s artwork is consistently good, and the digital format allows for some cool and creepy storytelling techniques.
You can read the first issue of The Endling in the embedded reader below, and the check out the full series over at www.thrillbent.com. I highly recommend it.
