Back in the day the term 'super group' had a negative connotation; great players, amazing music AND WON'T LAST! Bands like ASIA, the Firm and Blind Faith all played into that, but now it seems that super groups are popping up all over the place, most of the time to fill the time between projects. Last year it was the Winery Dogs that took my musical heart... this year it's Revolution Saints!
Featuring the talents of Deen Castronovo (drums and vocals), Night Ranger's Jack Blades (bass and vocals) and Whitesnake's Doug Aldrich (guitars), Revolution Saints is an amazing collection of players that captures the best of their respected bands and brings a fresh and melodic sound that has not left my CD player since I bought it.
The band was brought together by producer, keyboardist and songwriter Alessandro Del Vecchio but the true star of this disc is Castronovo. For the last few years Deen has been the drummer for Journey but it's his voice that is the driving force of Revolution Saints. his voice is amazing and gives songs like 'Back On My Trail', 'Turn Back Time' and 'Don't Walk Away' a serious Journey feel.
But it isn't just a Journey sound alike record! Doug Aldrich really plays some of his best guitar that gives the music serious power and Jack Blades does what he does best; adds a counter balance much like he did for Tommy Shaw in Damn Yankees.
If you are a fan of any of these guys full time band then you will love Revolution Saints. If you love good old fashion rock and roll than the recommendation is the same.
I know 2015 isn't that old but this will hard to top as my favorite disc of the year!
