A character that has gone thru a horrific metamorphoses in recent months has been Archie Comics little witch, Sabrina. But this drastic change has brought not only terror... but an even greater appreciation of this fascinating character.
Sabrina was created in 1966 by George Gladir and Dan deCarlo and firSt debuted in ARCHIE'S MADHOUSE # 22. For most of the 60's and 70's Sabrina was regulated to back up stories and appearances with a few on going series along the way. But in 1996 Sabrina hit the big time with her own series starring Melissa Joan Hart in the starring role. The show was a huge success and ... I never missed an episode! I loved the character and show much I lobbied very hard for my youngest daughter Samantha to be named Sabrina. I lost...
Sabrina became my daughter Rebekah's favorite character when Tania Del Rio put her own spin on the character and became a dear friend of ours... a relationship we still have.
And now... Sabrina has become a seriously scary and quite intense comic from Archie as part of their horror line. Written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and drawn by Robert Hack, the CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA makes the AFTERLIFE WITH ARCHIE series read like and ARCHIE comic. Brian and I will be reviewing the latest issue on an upcoming episode of Secret Identity... but in the meantime... grab some great reading... anything Sabrina... and have a good fright!
