So I just got out of the tub and you know it... I read the first issue of STAR WARS, hitting shop shelves later today!
For those who don't know this issue marks the return of the franchise to Marvel and this book already lives up to the celebrations and zillion covers produced for this book.
Written by Jason Aaron, the story takes place following the destruction of the Death Star and the Empire is in a bit of disarray, especially in the production department.
Drawn by uber artist John Cassaday, his renderings of the character all look like the actors that played them. The scenes are beautiful and it is so cool to see Luke wearing his award ceremony outfit. THAT WAS NOT A SPOILER!
The colors by Laura Martin are what you would expect... beautiful! There is no one better than her in the business when it comes to bringing life to art!
Giving us the words to read is our old friend, letterer Chris Eliopoulos. The rule of thumb is if i can read it in the tub than it is good! Chris must have had fits not wantoing to cover up John and Laura's beautiful work, but he did a fantastic job!
Sure there was no Jaxxon, but there was a ton of fun! This book gave me the same thrills i got reading SPLINTER OF THE MINDS EYE and STAR WARS #7, both the first looks at life 'beyond the movie, beyond the galaxy'!
If you are a STAR WARS fan than you will love this book! it takes place in the time period that most fans love the most.
PLUS.... a bunch of Walkers, too!
MATMAN RATING: 5 OUT OF 5 DEAD ENDS!
