Today comic book history is being made. Yes… we have all heard that before… a zillion times… for a zillion different things. But today, DC Comics resets the lukewarm NEW 52 and hopefully returns to a more friendly, exciting and better executed DCU.

First of all, I don’t wanna just dismiss and bash the NEW 52 like everyone seems to do. There were some great moments and being a part of something ‘new’ was amazing. The problem was that it seemed a little disjointed with no long term plans beyond the ‘new’ part. And second and most important for me was that the characters weren’t all that likeable. Everyone seemed angry, confused or directionless especially the younger characters. It made me give up very early on TEEN TITANS and the JUSTICE LEAGUE books where it just seemed like a collection of angry people.

But there was plenty of good! But with DC REBIRTH, I’m expecting all good!
And?

DC REBIRTH is an amazing read that I won’t give away any MAJOR spoilers, so please feel free to read on.  The story begins where FLASHPOINT ended a few years back, with Bruce Wayne feeling devastated by the revelation that there is a world out there where he died and his father became Batman. But instead of Barry Allen being the catalyst for everything going on its Wally West who within the first few pages shows up wearing my favorite superhero costume of all time’ the red and yellow, open haired one he wore as, what seems to be late teens Kid Flash! All I will say about the plot is that it appears Wally West is collecting speedsters……

Written by Geoff Johns who more than anyone else in existence (besides me) holds the DCU sacred and will not tell an epic story without thinking of us old hardline Pre-Crisis readers. The only hint of anything I will say is get ready for the return of someone blue… in name and in color!

The art by Ethan Van Sciver, Ivan Reis, Gary Frank and Phil Jimenez is a dream; each with similar styles that flow beautifully and perfectly. And at 80 pages for $2.99 you can afford to take a chance… then get ready to get sucked back into a fun and very human DCU.
