Despite me not knowing anything about wrestler Mick Foley I was super excited to get a chance to meet him. Why? Because wrestlers are some of the nicest and coolest people you will ever meet.
We have been fortunate enough to have Rowdy Roddy Piper, The Smoke and Chris Jericho part of Secret Identity lore, but what is it about a professional wrestler that makes them the way they are?
I haven't followed wrestling since the golden days of Piper, Macho Man and the like... but when you think about a wrestler you think about their presence, their stature and how fans reacted to them.
For me it always comes back to how they were with the fans. If they were the good guy like Hulk Hogan or the bad guy like the Rowdy One, they had to work hard to build their fan base. Without it they would be just be another wrestler like (fill in any name here). They had to market themselves and get the WWF to stand behind them and push them even more.
I think that goes a long way to why they are the way are outside the ring. They work incredibly hard to get where they are and most never forget where they came from and who stood behind them on the way up and the way down.
And you also have to admire someone who trains like they do, puts in the time and can climb their way to the top. Sure, the fights may be choreographed and the stories are planned but the falls, the hits, the chairs do take a toll on your body.
This past weekend I got to meet and chat with Mick Foley who among his zillion titles was and is one of the most beloved wrestlers ever. He is now a New York Times Best Selling Author and does a lot of charity work and is now someone who I add to the list of coolest people I have ever met.
