On this one, the voice of Yes now belongs to Benoit David, a Jon Anderson sound-alike who not only fills some mighty big shoes, but carves his own identity within the music! Bassist Chris Squires, drummer Alan White and guitarist Steve Howe are also joined by Geoff Downes on keyboards.
The disc starts out with the 25 or so minute title track broken into six parts. Here is where the classic Yes sound resides. This song has a history dating back to 1980, when The Buggles (Downes and Trevor Horn) presented it to Yes. Ultimately the duo joined the band and recorded the highly underrated ‘Drama’ album. Each part is different from the rest but flows together incredibly nicely.
Other songs like Solitaire, Life On A Film Set, and the incredible The Man You Always Wanted Me To Be and Hour Of Need not only add to the legacy of Yes but add another level to their music. Many longtime fans are having a little trouble with ‘Fly From Here’, because it doesn’t sound like ‘The Yes Album’ or ‘90124’, but it shouldn’t have too.
Produced by Trevor Horn, ‘Fly From Here’ sounds fresh and exciting; mixing the trademark Yes sound with a brand new feel. It hasn’t left my CD player since I got it and has easily become one of my top five favorite Yes albums! Give it a chance! It could be yours too.
