This weekend's trip to my LCS proved to be the best of CONVERGENCE... so far!

First of all, we discover (or finally realize) who Deimos is and we return to the much forgotten, but awesome world of the Warlord. We see that Telos has a purpose for Dick Grayson and the earth 2 heroes stumble into more trouble!

But what is cool this week is that, among the CONVERGENCE tie in's we have some much forgotten heroes and teams that are a welcome back!

Crime Syndicate - The Earth 3 villains that caused so much trouble in FOREVER EVIL are back in their original form.

PLASTIC MAN AND THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS - The Nazi's won World War Two and our heroes have to save the day in their own corner of the universe.

JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA - Back and older! But will they be too old to fight for their world? Or will they need the help of ...

INFINITY INC. - Welcome back old friends!

WORLD'S FINEST - The seven Soldiers of Victory and escaped zoo animals. Need I say more?

Connecticut Comic Conn at Mohegan Sun just got bigger and better! Today, show promoter Mitch Hallock has announced to the world that KISS Forever, the best KISS tribute band in the land have been added to the three day show starting on August 14th!

"
The con that celebrates comics has rock - the Bat Pack, Comedians of the Unknown and KISS Forever." said Hallock from his 'Hall of Justice!'

For me this is a no - brainer...KISS and comic books go hand in hand. As a six year old comic book fan, KISS to me represented a real life musical comic book. I have gotten to know the guys very well and am looking forward to the rest of the world discovering them. Here is our buddy (and Secret Identity alum) Ara to tell us more!

"I'm Ara Asadoorian AKA Starchild of KISS FOREVER: Tribute Band to KISS.  Yesterday I was looking for a DVD to watch and came across Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and next to it was Kissology Part 1. I looked at both DVD's and said to myself, these are my two favorite movie and band videos in this whole world. They are uniquely the same in their amazing looks and sounds.  KISS first known for it's music, amazing stage performance and later toys, comics and movies makes me feel like we fit right into the comic world. Kiss Forever is so happy to perform this summer at Connecticut's premier Comic Con at Mohegan Suns Cabaret Theater.  We will have the most amazing stage and sound performance that you will not want to miss.  Our band will be featuring new costumes from the Dynasty & Unmasked era, new songs and a lot more surprises. Our Ace AKA Rob Smith will be mesmerizing the crowd with his authentic recreation of Rock God: Ace Frehley.  Our Demon AKA John Saner will be stalking the stage and spitting blood and our Fox AKA Mike Grillo will be high above the stage on our Creatures of the Night: Tank drum riser.  I'll be strutting the stage and smashing a guitar or too.  Come rock and roll with us all day Saturday from 11-3PM and as always, come and take pictures and autographs with us anytime!"

Sixx A.M. - Modern Vintage

4/25/2015

Picture
by Matman

I am a big fan of
Nikki Sixx!  Not only
is he the architect of
everything Motley
Crue but he is also a
survivor. His battles
with heroin addiction
and his lifestyle of
debauchery are
legendary. With
Motley Crue coming
to a close it was time for Nikki to move onto the next phase of his musical career, SIXX A.M. and let me say it right now...holy crap!

For me Motley Crue's first two albums TWO FAST FOR LOVE and SHOUT AT THE DEVIL are two of the best and most enjoyable metal albums of all time and for me was the pinnacle of the Crue and Nikki Sixx, but after one listen to MODERN VINTAGE (the third album from SIXX A.M.), i think Sixx has made the best album of his career.

Joining him in this project is James Michael (vocals, keyboards, guitar and producer) and DJ Ashba (guitar) who bring an original, organic and very emotional feel to the songs. There are eleven tracks on the disc and I will tell you hear and now, I love all twelve. The songs sound commercial and very radio friendly like Stars, Gotta Get it right and my favorite, Relief and have an appeal to anyone who likes their music full of emotion.

Brian and I seem to be calling every new release our favorite of 2014 but right now... MODERN VINTAGE is my favorite so far, an amazing listen that sounds nothing like Motley Crue. The vocals are what I love, the melodies are magical and the playing is classic and almost old school.

If you are looking for a great listen then MODERN VINTAGE by SIXX A.M. is the disc for you!

...and to add a little more to this story, SIXX A.M. will be appearing this year at Rock 'n' Shock in Worcester, MA. To find out more go to www.rockandshock.com

Like Variant Covers? Four Color Grails is the Subscription Service for You

4/22/2015

If you listen to the podcast, you'll often hear Matt and I asking about which cover we picked up for books that have variants. There is something pretty cool about having a cover that has a bit of exclusivity to it, even if you're never planning on selling it and just want to enjoy it for your own collection.

If you're a fan a variants, then Four Color Grails is a service you're probably going to want to check out. Four Color Grails is a subscription box service that provides exclusive variant covers of mainstream and indie comics to their subscribers each month. Every monthly box comes with four comics that feature covers you will not find anywhere else. Like this J. Scott Campbell STAR WARS #1:

Or this kick butt NINJAK #1 exclusive:
Picture
Four Color Grails Launched in February of 2015 and they already have major publishers like Marvel, IDW, Image and Valiant on board, with more coming.

There are two subscription levels you can choose from right now:

1-Month Subscription: $29.95 + S&H
3-Month Subscription: $26.95 = S&H

The plans are recurring, so if you like what you're getting, your plan will continue to renew.

There's still time for you to get in on April's box if you head over to www.fourcolorgrails.com before the end of the month. You can also check out FCG on Twitter and over on the FCG Facebook page, where they're showing off some of each month's sweet variants.

So, go give them a look, and if you like what you see, give them a shot. With all the loot box services out there today, it's nice to see one aimed squarely at comic collectors. We wish them a ton of success and can't wait to see what's coming!

Wild Bill's Soda - The Review

4/20/2015

Picture
by Matman

People who know me know I LOVE soda!  Granted I cut my Mountain Dew intake drastically a few years ago; 12 cans to a more manageable 3 a day.  One of my favorite things to do when i'm visiting a new area is to seek out the local or regional sodas... it's just something I do!  This past weekend at Super Megafest I discovered some of the best soda 9or pop) I have ever had.

Wild Bill's Olde Fashioned Soda was an amazing set up pretty close to the center of the show floor.  Here you would buy a collectable and very cool stainless steel mug for $20.00 and for the rest of the day you got unlimited free refills of their amazing sodas.  When you were done for the day you were fill and had an amazing souvenir of the show, complete with ingraved Super Megafest logo.

Flavors available (that I didn't try) were Root Beer, Sarsaparilla, diet Root Beer, Birch Beer and Grape. The two I tried and liked were Black Cherry and Orange but the one I drank a whole lot of was the Vanilla Cream.

These sodas are smooth and full of flavor; not over carbonated or...too sweet. Yup, I jut said it, not too sweet. They use all natural sugars, not that high fructose corn syrupy crap and you really taste it... full body with an amazing bouquet as well.

For more information check 'em out at www.wildbillssoda.com and look for them at a con near you... like the North East Comic Con in July!
