Here's your rundown: Download Location of the Week: Hartford, CT (CTCon) Feedback Reviews: Spider-Woman #8 Captain Canuck #1 Justice League 3001 #1 Lazerman #9 Summer Reading Project: SW: Battleworld Journal #2 Howard the Duck #4 You can listen to the episode right here in the player above, or grab us on iTunes, Stitcher or your favorite podcast app. Thanks for listening! ![]() by Matman This week, Brian and I will begin the Summer watching project, DAREDEVIL from Netflix! First off let me start by saying this show is amazing! It certainly is more in the Marvel Knights mold; violent, emotional and incredibly fast paced. The show absolutely captures the feel of what i fell like Daredevil should be... and i'm only a few episodes in! Playing Matt Murdock / Daredevil is Charlie Cox who brings an intensity and believably to the role. Deborah Ann Wall plays Karen Paige, the flawed and fragile secretary. The casting of Elden Henson is perfect. He acts like I would expect Foggy Nelson to act and looks just like he does in the comics. And Private Pile himself... Vincent D'Onofria is Kingpin looks promising... cuz I haven't seen much of him yet. DAREDEVIL, so far, has been a feast for the eyes especially the fight sequences that sometimes result in blood and busted bones. The fight at the end of the second episode was one of the best fight scenes I have ever seen. So get ready for the Summer Watching project... and get ready for some awesome fun!

Joe Sinnott, the award’s namesake and first recipient made the following statement regarding this year’s inductees: “It is with great pleasure that we are inducting these two great artists—legends in the industry—into the Inkwell Awards Hall Of Fame. I have never had the pleasure to meet either of these gentlemen, but certainly would have loved to have sat down and talked with them. I'm quite sure we would have had some very interesting stories to share. “I would have really enjoyed inking Joe Kubert's Sgt. Rock. As many of you know, some of my favorite work was doing all those war stories for Atlas Comics back in the 1950s, so this would have been a lot of fun. I inked several issues of ROM Spaceknight for Marvel Comics in the 1980s. These stories were quite different from what I was doing, but fun to do. I certainly enjoyed them. There were a lot of space scenes that I enjoyed doing, adding all the stars and planets etc. My final issue of inking ROM was #73. That happened to be the only time that I ever got to work with Steve Ditko on anything. That's amazing in itself. After all those years, one would think that there would have been a story or two that we would have worked on together, but that was it. It was a pleasure to have worked on that 1 ROM issue. “Congratulations to these two fine gentlemen on their induction into our Hall Of Fame. Thank you to all the committee members that voted them in, and I look forward to more great inkers being added to our elite group next year.” During the Inkwell Awards ceremony at HeroesCon, Orion Zangara, Joe Kubert’s grandson, spoke for the Joe Kubert Estate and accepted Kubert's posthumous award. Craig Yoe spoke and accepted the award for Steve Ditko, who couldn’t make the event. Scott Hampton spoke for Bernie Wrightson, who was not in attendance on Friday. Klaus Janson was the Guest of Honor. Inkwell Awards founder and director Bob Almond acted as ceremony host, joined by hostess “Ms. Inkwell,” as portrayed by Holly Black. 2012 Sinnott Hall of Fame recipient Mark McKenna and Inkwell Special Ambassador Mike McKone were presenters. Retired committee member Joe Goulart was presented with a Silver Inkwell award for time served. Erick Korpi and Michael W. Kellar received the same but were not present. The Inkwell Awards is an official 501(c)3 non-profit organization, whose mission is to educate and promote the art form of comic-book inking, as well as annually recognize and award the best ink artists and their work. Now wrapping up its eighth year, the organization is overseen by a committee of industry professionals and assisted by various professional ambassadors and contributors. They sponsor the Dave Simons Inkwell Memorial Scholarship Fund for the Kubert School and host the Joe Sinnott Hall of Fame Award. Website: inkwellawards.com

Our brothers at HB Comics are in the home stretch for their latest project! Please follow the link below and help them reach their goal in their Kickstarter campaign! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hbcomics/vindication-may-you-live-in-interesting-times VINDICATION is the story about a team of heroes that weren't created the typical way, but were forced together. And knowing that is half of the fun. Trust issues. personality clashes... it's all amazing fun! The world is reeling. The public has just learned that super powered beings, once thought to only exist in comic books or movies, are in fact, real. While the public is on the verge of panic, several super-powered individuals have found themselves targeted by an unknown force. Waking in a containment cell, these four strangers must learn to work together, and quickly, if they are to survive long enough to discover who, or what, has targeted them. It is against this backdrop that this character driven team book is set. Welcome to "Vindication: May you live in Interesting Times." Never Fight Alone. ![]() by Matman Back before CONVERGENCE started I remember feeling that it wouldn't be the event that was the story... but what would follow. So far the post 'New 52' DCU is shaping up to be something incredibly special and a ton of fun. Why? That is a great question that I don't really have an answer for but what I do know is I know what I like and I like this! So far in the '41's' I have noticed that ALL of them have been incredibly strong; amazing art and compelling stories. What DC has been presenting in their 'number ones' are diverse books that don't feel very continuity heavy. For me that means that creators can tell the stories THEY want to tell... not the ones that they have to write to fit into the one vision. BAT MITE has nothing to do with STARFIRE and is miles away from this weeks JLA. In fact, JLA features Superman not in his Truth' situation and Green Lantern looks like he always does, not as he did in GREEN LANTERN # 41... and I don't care! I know that Marvel films has worked tirelessly to create the 'one world' and DC tried to do that with the New 52, but I just want great stories and mind blowing art... and that is what we are getting! Starfire is trying to find her way and living in a trailer? Love it! Parasite is back and piles of Supermen in a kids lab. YUP! ALL STAR SECTION EIGHT is just insane! Black Canary is in a band and beats people up at her shows? I can did it! So a note to DC...please keep doing what you are doing because for the first time since the 'New 52' launched, i'm real excited! Tell those stories and take chances? Can the world survive two HARLEY QUINN books? Let's see... But please...as awesome and beautiful a work of art Bryan Hitch's art was in JLA #1... no more six dollar books. |
