Kingstone Comics Brings The Message

9/29/2013

Picture
by Matman

We all know good comic books and graphic novels just don't have to feature stories about blind guys with radar sense or aliens from another planet who get their powers from the yellow sun. They can also be based in reality.

Kingstone Comics is a faith based comic company that has two goals; to spread the 'good news' and to produce a Christian comic book that has the quality of a DC or Marvel comic.

Kingstone Comics is a part of Kingstone Media, a multimedia company based in central Florida that "provides premium quality products for both the general and faith markets through its two primary imprints."

Kingstone has two lines of comic books...

The first is based on the Bible like 'Moses', 'King David' and 'The Christ'.

The second is a group called 'Apologetics' which is Greek for speaking in defense. These are books that answer questions to help build your faith like '101 Questions' and 'The Book Of God'.

On their website (www.kingstonecomics.com) you can get samples of these amazing books and take my word for it, the art and quality takes a backseat to no one.

Another big selling point for the company is having creators who have worked in the mainstream comics like artist Javier Saltares (G.I. Joe, Moon Knight, Ghost Rider) and writer Ben Avery who co write a book I just wrote about a few days ago, 'Oz / Wonderland Chronicles'.

Ultimate Spider-Man Halloween Special Features Blade, Man-Thing

9/28/2013

Picture
On Saturday October 5th at 9PM EST, Disney XD will be airing an Ultimate Spider-Man Halloween special, featuringBlade, Werewolf by Night, Man-Thing, The Living Mummy and Frankenstein's Monster. The cartoon version of the Howling Commandos will be taking on none other than Dracula himself.

I'm pretty psyched to see how the Ultimate Spidey folks bring this incarnation of some of Marvel's creepuer characters to the small screen. Some of my favorite episodes of the 1990's Spider-Man series featured Blade--you can watch a clip from one of them below.

The Oz / Wonderland Collections

9/25/2013

Picture
by Matman

I have been a fan of the 'Oz / Wonderland Chronicles' since the first time I read the book a bunch of years ago. I became a bigger fan when I interviewed series writer and artist Casey Heying at Baltimore Comic Con a few years ago.

And now is the time for you to see what I've been raving about all these years.

From buymetoys.com, here is the sales pitch!

"Alice and Dorothy must leave their modern Chicago lives to return to their childhood fantasy lands, as the Jabberwocky from Wonderland threatens to destroy everything. But upon returning to Oz, Dorothy and Alice only find death and destruction, compliments of the (new?) Wicked Witch! Featuring paintings by Joe Jusko, Greg Horn, Phil Noto, Boris Vallejo, Glen Orbik and Alex Ross! Collects issues #0-#4, character Bios and extras. By Ben Avery & Casey Heying - writers, Casey Heying interior artist, Glen Orbik cover artist"

Available soon is the complete collection in two volumes! Both books contain 184 full color pages and retail for $19.99. You can tell your local comic book shop to order you each...BUT that isn't all.

The story isn't complete without reading the 'Oz / Dreamland Chronicles Prelude". This must read tells the story before it all went wrong, written and drawn by the same team who gave us the first.

How About Some Beatles?

9/23/2013

Picture
By Matman

Are you sick of all the podcasts and books that Brian and I keep doing? No? Good!

I just posted the inaugural episode of my music show 'The Radio Eclectic'! Each month, I will spotlight a favorite band or artist and counting down my ten favorite songs by them. But it's not just me stringing music together, I'll be telling stories about the bands and songs and sharing some personal memories. To me it's like radio used to be. And of course...the show is all ages!

http://matmancomics.podomatic.com/entry/2013-09-21T17_41_55-07_00

This episode is dedicated to the Beatles! For me music has always begun and ended with the Beatles. Their songs have been the soundtrack to my life more than any other and I look at this show as a celebration.

Not to mention the impossible chore of narrowing down the Beatles catalog to the ten best songs...then putting them in order!

I hope you enjoy the show and get ready for next month when I count down my 10 favorite songs from Deep Purple!

Picture
by Matman

One of the best cartoons to be released in the past 20 years has been 'Ben 10.'  This show has it all; great premise, incredible characters and a lot of heart.

Now, 'Ben 10' has found an new printing home with our friends from IDW.

Hitting the shelves in November is the new monthly adventures written by Jason Henderson and drawn by Gordon Purcell and printed by IDW. What happens when Ben Tennyson and his friends go on a ocean cruise? Try...everything awesome! Look out for this full color 32 page comic for $3.99.

And in true IDW fashion and style, look out for 'Ben 10 Classics, Volume 1' featuring stories written by Ben 10 creators Man Of Action Studios. This book collects the original stories that appeared in DC's Cartoon Network Action Pack and gives it to you in full color for under twenty bucks.

Like IDW has done with all their properties like the Ninja Turtles, KISS, Judge Dredd and more recently with the Powerpuff Girls, they not only give you incredible new stories but they also get into the vaults and create beautiful collections to help you get caught up on what you may have missed in the past.

Celebrate one of the best cartoons in history by not only embracing the past but looking forward to the future.
