Just Keep It Coming, DC!

8/29/2015

I was a little sad when I read the reports of DC Comics losing money and market share in the post CONVERGANCE world.

As a life long DCer (over 40 years thank you very much) I had become a bit disillusioned with the NEW 52 and the fact that most of the characters were unlikable... especially the younger heroes like the TEEN TITANS.  I began to see my pull list have less DC titles in it and this made me sad. These seemed to be a huge push to follow the Marvel business model of total continuity and the expense of story telling.

In the current DC it seems continuity has been chucked out the window and creators are given a chance to tell some amazing stories. How can Green Lantern look classic in JLA but completely different in GREEN LANTERN proper? Who cares!!! Both books are amazing so why should it bother me? When did we get all nutty about continuity? I know it's a 'hot topic' in the industry but I think we should be worried more about the product than trying to force puzzle pieces where they don't fit.

Is it cool that the Marvel cinematic universe is all tied together? Sure it is... but when noting is going on there, TV's AGENTS OF SHIELD sucks! In the New 52 everything fit together quite nicely but stories and characters seemed forced. Superman's secret identity has been exposed, a young girl is running for president in PREZ and none of it fits...

Jimmy Crack Corn And I Don't Care!

Don't get panicky DC and shift back to something many of us found unlikable for the sake of continuity! If the term 'Batgirling' is going to be used to describe out of continuity stories... give me more 'Batgirling'!

Thank You CT. Comic Conn

A week later and all I keep thinking about was the fun and amazing time we had last weekend at CT. Comic Conn at Mohegan Sun! Oh... and by the way... its now called TerrifiCon!

The first thing was the venue. At Mohegan Sum you had free parking and a great venue. Carpeted floors, plenty of room for vendors, creators and fans. Top notch facility!

Second was the creators! From Roy Thomas, Dan Parent, Joe Caramagna... there was something for everyone. And not only were there the big names, there were many up and coming creators and local talent who offered not only talents but diversity.

And how about stuff to buy? Oh there was a lot of that! Comics of all prices, toys of every type and plenty of cool shirts.

There was some cool extras going on like comedy (featuring our pal Keith Gleason) and music with KISS Forever.

On the book selling and podcast pushing side, Brian and I rocked! We got to meet new friends, make so many new ones and managed to sell some books.

So thank you to everyone involved with the show for providing a great time that will make comic fans add TerrifiCon to their annual stops!

Press Release

Image Comics is pleased to announce that—in celebration of the second printing of SEX CRIMINALS #11 by writer Matt Fraction and artist Chip Zdarsky—fans will have an opportunity to enter into a very special contest on Twitter and Instagram.

The SEX CRIMINALS #11, second printing cover will be available on Wednesday, September 9th and feature a faceless Fraction and Zdarsky, allowing readers to fill in with their own sketches and post photos of their finished creations on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag, #BrimperSketch.

Fraction and Zdarsky will then sift through the photos submitted with the #BrimperSketch hashtag and choose one winner. The winner will be announced on the Image Comics website the following week, Wednesday, September 16th.

The lucky winning participant will receive:

  • one (1) signed THE WICKED & THE DIVINE #2 Zdarsky variant where Zdarsky himself has eaten the portion of the cover with McKelvie's face in order to gain his youthful powers.
  • one (1) signed copy of JUST THE TIPS where Zdarsky has drawn a penis tip on every single page.
  • one (1) copy of BIG HARD SEX CRIMINALS signed by Fraction and with a personalized, handwritten erotic fan fiction story incorporating Chip Zdarsky and a character of the winner’s choosing.
SEX CRIMINALS #11 has completely sold out at the distributor level, but may still be available in comic stores. It is currently available digitally on the Image Comics website (imagecomics.com) and the official Image Comics iOS app, as well as on Comixology on the web (comixology.com), iOS, Android, and Google Play.

Image Comics is pleased to announce that the #11 issue sketch cover will be going back to print to meet customer demand. The second printing of SEX CRIMINALS #11 sketch cover (Diamond Code JUL158177) will release on Wednesday, September 9th.
