Meet Brad Linder and CatMan!

With so many
Kickstarter campaigns
going on, it can get kind
of confusing and a
bit overwhelming to find
just one that grabs you!
But our friend Rusty
Gilligan told me about a creator named Brad Linder (representing the state of Oklahoma) and his amazing project called CatMan. This book has just started its campaign and Brad is hoping to get you to check it out!

"CatMan is about Darren Merrywether who is the grandson of the 1950's Cat-Man and is the heir to the Merrywether Foundation," describes Brad.  "Darren is trying to stop a local crime-boss from stealing a case of secret hi-tech weapons, while trying to prevent an internal hostile takeover of his family's company."

In a time when it seems like everyone is creating a comic and a Kickstarter to push it, Brad feels he has something special. "FireStorm Comics and CatMan included, are targeted for fans that grew up with comics but, comics didn't grow up with them. The true hardcore fans that are looking for something new, unique and different... fresh meat so to speak."

But creating comics isn't the only thing going on with brad... but for the reat we'll just have to wait and see.

In the meantime, check out his Kickstarter campaign at

Thank You Vermont Comic Con!

The first Vermont Comic Con in beautiful Burlington Vermont has now come and gone and my thoughts on the show are simple... one of the most enjoyable shows for me so far in 2014!

With first shows you never know what to expect and for me and my traveling companion; artist extraordinaire Ron Leary, had a three hour drive to the show.... we were exhausted before we even arrived. But the staff and volunteers made quick set up for us, getting us to our tables and making sure we had everything we needed. When i began to suffer from lack of soda and felt a 'diva moment' coming on, show big wig Elaine Atkins Manley gave me her last soda. THANK YOU for that!

Burlington and it's surrounding towns have never had a show like this and came out in droves to support it! Attendance was at least triple what they hoped and expected and with this huge influx of fans, the show floor never seemed crowded and aisles were never congested. The volunteers kept exits clear and made sure in was in and out was out. Security was AMAZING!!! These guys and gals didn't act like cops with an attitude, they were helpful and always there to ask if anything was needed!

A real cool thing that was going on right next to my table was face painting by Joy Hawkfeather (apparently there was a Native American section at the show) and her Vermont Face & Body. There was some awesome painting done on some very happy faces!

Talking to creator friends like Ron Leary, Jr., Nick Bradshaw, Scott Wee, Matt Sylvester, Blair Shedd and Michael Kingston they all felt the same way. Important as well, people were not only buying, but were so enthusiastic about the show and what was going on. In fact, I had my best selling one day EVER on Saturday surpassing NYCC Thursday! I also met some amazing folks and made a ton of new friends! I even had a few cosplayers come running up to me telling me they were at my Doctor Who 101 panel at Connecticon 2014. That sent me into a little panic until they told me they had fun!

Interviews you will be hearing from the show will be of artist Scott Wee, writer Michael Kingston, the kids from the Drunk Geek Podcast and VTCC head honcho J. Moulton, who took some of his incredibly valuable time to chat with me about the fun and anguish about putting on a con.

So here it is... if you are a creator, vendor or con goer, make plans to be at this show next year! I can't recommend this event highly enough than to want my professional friends to get involved.

Thank you Vermont Comic Con and Lee's Chinese Restaurant in beautiful Burlington, VT for an amazing weekend of food, folks and fun!

This past weekend in Burlington, VT at the Vermont Comic Con I ran into writer Michael
Kingston from Visionary Comics! I first met Mike at the Boston Comic Con when I was interviewing wrestling legend Jerry 'The King' Lawler. 'The King' did an incredible Norman Rockwell style cover for Mike's amazing book HEADLOCKED; the story about a young man following his dreams to become a wrestler.

After running into each other at almost every show I've been at I was psyched to finally get a chance to chat with Mike about HEADLOCKED, wrestling and his busy schedule. You'll be hearing that interview sometime soon but until then, you need to check out the Kickstarter campaign to fund the second volume of this amazing book!

RIVERDALE Brings Archie Comics to TV

Press Release

Teen drama starring beloved comic characters lands at FOX

The news is out: “Riverdale,” a one-hour drama based on the iconic Archie comic book characters, has landed at Fox. Warner Brothers Studios is producing along with studio-based Berlanti Productions.

“Riverdale” offers a bold, subversive take on Archie, Betty, Veronica, and their friends, exploring the surrealistic twists of small-town life plus the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome facade. Set in the present in the small fictional town of Riverdale, New York. The show will focus on the eternal love triangle of Archie Andrews, girl-next-door Betty Cooper, and rich socialite Veronica Lodge, and will include the entire cast of characters from the comic books—including Archie’s rival, Reggie Mantle, and his slacker best friend, Jughead Jones. Popular gay character Kevin Keller will also play a pivotal role. In addition to the core cast, “Riverdale” will introduce other characters from Archie Comics’ expansive library, including Josie and the Pussycats.

The show will be produced by Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions (“Arrow,” “The Flash”), written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (“Glee,” “Looking”).

Bertlanti’s track record as a producer includes a number of small-town teen dramas, such as the acclaimed “Jack & Bobby” and “Dawson’s Creek” and superhero fare pulled from the four-color pages of legendary comic books like “Arrow” and “The Flash.” Aguirre-Sacasa, in addition to being the Chief Creative Officer at Archie Comics, also writes two of the publisher’s best-selling titles – the horror series Afterlife with Archie and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. He spent three years as a writer on “Glee” and penned the remake of teen-angst classic “Carrie” and the cult horror classic “The Town that Dreaded Sundown,” as well as the Broadway-bound musical adaptation of “American Psycho.”

“This is a historic moment for Archie Comics, and we couldn’t be happier to partner with FOX, Warner Bros. and Greg Berlanti to bring our characters to television,” said Archie Comics Publisher/Co-CEO Jon Goldwater. “Greg and Roberto are experts when it comes to making great, compelling television and bringing beloved comic book creations to life on the screen. They’re the perfect team to welcome viewers to ‘Riverdale.’”

“This is something we’ve been working on for awhile now, figuring out the best way to bring these characters to life for what will be, essentially, the first time,” Aguirre-Sacasa said. “The entire team working on ‘Riverdale’ is as passionate about Archie as Jon and I are, so it feels like the stars have finally aligned for Archie and the rest of the gang.”

Since the Dark Horse era of Star Wars ended a few months ago, many of us have been just a little anxious for anything Star Wars. Sure STAR WARS REBELS on Disney XD fills a little void... but we want our comics!

Recently it was announced by Marvel that writer Jason Aaron and artist John Cassaday would be the creative team telling the tales of Luke, Han, Chewie and Leia between A NEW HOPE and THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK!

Despite the fact that we have to wait until January 2015 for the first issue, the image of the Alex Ross variant cover has many fans, including me reaching for their Star Wars toys.

What is so cool about this cover is that it's the absolute re-do of the classic Howard Chaykin's iconic original from 1977 which for me became what I always pictured when I thought Star Wars!

It even has the top corner Luke Skywalker picture!!!! tee hee!

Forget Doctor Strange--Check Out Doctor Mordrid!

There's been a lot of hullabaloo lately about Marvel's upcoming Doctor Strange movie in 2016. But did you know there's already been a live-action Doctor Strange movie? Well then, allow me to introduce you to--Doctor Mordrid!
That's right, back in 1992 Full moon pictures made their own Doctor Strange movie, and it starred the legendary Jeffrey Combs! Rumor has it that Full Moon once held the rights to a Doctor Strange movie, but they expired before production on the film could begin. So, they went ahead and made the movie anyway.

I picked up the Blu-Ray of Doctor Mordrid from the Full Moon booth at Rock & Shock this past weekend, and it's a ton of fun to revisit. the movie looks great on Blu-Ray, and one of the extras is an interview that William Shatner did with both Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton years ago. Great stuff.

So, if you can't wait until 2016, grab a copy of Doctor Mordrid over at the Full Moon site and get ready for some B-movie magic.
