The First CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Trailer is Here!

11/29/2015

by Brian LeTendre

It's going to be a long wait until May 6th.

The trailer for Captain America: Civil War dropped this week, and even though there's a lot we haven't seen, what we did get looks pretty freaking amazing.

It appears that the rift between Cap and Iron Man in the movie has a lot to do with Cap's loyalty to Bucky and his desire to protect him. It seem like the concept of the Registration Act has been morphed as well, with the focus being on tighter regulation of the Avengers as a group. It any case, it doesn't matter, because in this trailer, we get to see the debut Black Panther.

Black. Freaking. Panther. It's only a couple of brief glimpses, but I already love the costume, cannot wait to see more of him.

The biggest thing we did not see in the trailer was of course, Spider-Man. As a lifelong Spidey guy, I knew it was too much to hope for that we'd actually see anything substantial with Spidey this early. I would expect him to show up in a trailer a little closer to release, as it will shift the buzz about this movie into complete overdrive.

So, what did you think of the trailer?

Happy Filling In The Rack 2016

Although the real world is not even in December yet, the comic book world has already entered 2016!

Happy New Year and let me explain.

Comic books have always been a few months ahead of the 'real world'. When I was a younger reader in the 1970's and 1980's, comics were always three even four months ahead of the cover date. A perfect example is the fact that I got NEW TEEN TITANS # 1 for my 12th birthday and the cover date said November! Now as the comics are beginning to get the January print month, i use this time to evaluate my pull list and prepare for the coming year.

I know this sounds horribly geeky and OCD (guilty of both) but it is part of my filing system. In my comic book room I have an old school spinner rack. In the rack I store (or place) all the comics I buy each month. There are 50 spaces so I figure I will get between 35 and 40 regular monthly books, and round it out with mini series and the like.

When the particular series hits it December issue, I take them all, reorder them and put them into their corresponding box in the shelves. In the spinner they are alphabetical by title. bagged (number ones are boarded) with the latest issue facing you. As the rack gets emptied I wait to put the January issues in to see who and what will make the cut. This is done as soon as I get 35 to 40 issues. It is a ceremony i like to call 'Filling In The Rack'!

So over the next few weeks i will be posting about the books that will be making the cut and some that I will bit a goodbye to. That ceremony is called 'Saving Money!'

Super Megafest 2015 is 'In The Books'

Super Megafest is a show that has been recently added to the 'must go' list Secret Identity cons once again proved again last week why it is still one of the best and one of my favorites!

Super Megafest is a long running show that heavily bases its guest lists on celebrities. Unlike many shows that deal with actors, musicians and athletes, SMF gives you an opportunity to meet and speak with them and have one on one time that other shows may not offer. The show also has many comic writers, artists and related vendors that make this a magical weekend.

First off, the venue; the Sheraton in Framingham, MA (or the castle) is a cool place for a show! Free parking with creators and vendors spread all over the place!  When you are here, take the time to explore so you don't miss anything... or anyone! And.. free parking!

This year I was able to do a few panels; two with pal Stacey Longo and a Doctor Who 101 that was not only a blast, but almost filled to capacity!

The big treat at this years show was the DUKES OF HAZZARD reunion with John Schneider, Tom Wopat and Catherine Bach! They all looked amazing and spent a lot of time hanging out with fans, signing autographs and just making it a fun atmosphere. Former Monkee Peter Tork was on hand (and walking by my table a bunch of times) as well as Dennis Rodman and a host of others.

If you have never been to a Super Megafest show you need to look no further than April 2016 for the SPRING FEVER SPECTACULAR! I enjoyed last years event so much and think...AND know you will too.

My sincere thanks to John and the rest of the Super Megafest staff for making this another amazing show!

New LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Trailer Teases Even More Awesomeness

11/24/2015

by Brian LeTendre

I was already all-in for Legends of Tomorrow, the upcoming team show set in DC's television universe. But the new trailer that debuted this week has taken that excitement up a few notches.

We're starting to see what the dynamics between the characters are going to look like on this team, and I love the chemistry I'm seeing. The time travel element is going to be huge in this show, and it's giving me a Stargate SG-1 type of feeling (even though I think most people are getting a Dr. Who vibe).

As psyched as I am to see Hawkman and Hawkgirl, the thing I'm looking forward to the most is watching Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller eat up every scene that Heat Wave and Captain Cold are in. Those two are a joy to watch.

Dan Parent and Fernando Ruiz Team Up For 'Die Kitty Die'

11/19/2015

by Matman

What happens when a comic book character comes to the end of her run? You kill her of course! This is what Dan Parent and Fernando Ruiz have decided to do

The veteran Archie creators are at the beginning of a Kickstarter campaign to fund this exciting project... and here is the pitch...

"Kitty Ravencraft, a beautiful and magical young witch, is the star of her own popular comic book. When her greedy, publicity-starved publisher wants to increase interest in her comic book, he does what many comic book publishers do nowadays... he sets out to kill his main character, Kitty! Even worse, he decides to REALLY spike sales by killing the REAL Kitty in REAL life! The question is though... how do you kill a witch? "DIE, KITTY! DIE!" is a funny, exciting, and often sexy story about a girl caught in both the supernatural world of witches, and the super-crazy world of comics!"

To find out more go to
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/14732987/die-kitty-die-by-fernando-ruiz-and-dan-parent

And here is a bit about the duo...

"Some of you may not know us but we've been in the comic business for over twenty years. We've produced many popular, high-selling comics for other publishers, e.g. Archie Meets Kiss, Archie Vs Predator, Felix the Cat, etc. Over the years, we've often talked about the possibility of doing something together that is creator owned, and the timing for this has finally arrived. "Die Kitty Die!" will be a collaborative effort where we'll share writing and art duties. This will be our first joint effort under own new label, Astrocomix (it just sounds better than Parent & Ruiz comics, you know?)

We hope this venture will prove popular enough that we can produce more books and possibly launch more projects! You can read more about us individually at our own web-sites: danparent.com and fernandoruizeverybody.com  And for more Kitty info there's diekittydie.com and her Facebook page
