'After Watchmen'... Thoughts?

When DC announced the 'Before Watchmen', fans began to freak! Why? Many felt a sequel or even a prequel would tarnish the legacy of the original material.

I was not one of those!!! Considering the fact that I'm probably the only comic fan who didn't like the 'Watchmen', i don't have strong feeling either way.

I wasn't shocked at the backlash but i was at the stance that many people took. With a huge list of talent on board how could fans not count the days until its release? Of course Alan Moore wanted nothing to do with it. He didn't think it was right to do considering he didn't approve! Did he remember the fact that he created the 'Watchmen' series based on Charlton characters newly acquired by DC at the time? Do the fans?

Well I hope folks changed their 'moral stands' because if so then they are missing some incredible books featuring comics best creators!

Minutemen # 1 - As a writer Darwyn Cooke shows here he has a great understanding of the characters, as an artist he captures the feel of the golden age like no other! 5 out of 5!

Silk Spectre #1 - This is a touching story by Darwyn Cooke and incredibly drawn by Amanda Connor! This issue could easily have gone all 'Disney and drama filled', but it was a beautiful story! These two could write and draw a grocery list and make it perfect. 5 out of 5!

Comedian #1 - I was shocked at how much i loved this issue! With Brian Azzarello's ability to tell deep stories and J.G. Jones' realistic art, what would you expect? i didn't expect this... 5 out of 5!

So don't be such an idealist! No matter what you think of the books, it will never change the original 'Watchmen' and how you feel about it. But don't snap to a decision because everyone else is bagging on it and it seems like a cool thing to do, read and make up your mind for yourself!

I think the reason a prequel would disturb some people, is because: Watchmen was not like an episodic comic book where the continuing story was devised one-month to the next, but a social commentary built in the structure of an enclosed universe of a single novel; thus the backgrounds of all the characters were only devised to give the greatest effect to that political content, making a prequel (presumably for entertainment value only, but even if not) would be seen as missing the entire point of the graphic novel, therefore any such effort would be undertaken by people who did not fully understand the source material. I had not even known of this prequel till reading about it here and cannot say these are my feelings (but I suppose if I were to really get emotionally attached and think about it they might be) but rather my attempt to explain a possible reason for the behavior of some that seems to perplex you.
