“Wake up, Zero-Zero Nine...the world is waiting for you.”
With those words, a young man opens his eyes to find himself shackled to a gurney in some kind of research facility As he tries to get his bearings, he is attacked by robot guards, and finds that he has the skills to defeat them.
The otherworldly voice continues to prompt him as the young man fights his way out the the facility--only to come face to face with a group of young men and women who are a lot like him.
From that moment on, things get really interesting.
The zero issue of Cyborg 009 is a fantastic introduction to Shotaro Ishinomori’s (Kikaider, Kamen Rider) character and series, which originally debuted in weekly manga magazines back in 1964. Archaia is bringing the series back, and adapting it for Western audiences. The zero issue features a nice retrospective on Cyborg 009, as well as an interview with new series writer FJ DeSanto about what people can expect from the latest incarnation.
You can learn more about Cyborg 009 over at Archaia’s site, and you can grab this triple zero issue at your local shop now for a mere $1.
