For the past couple of nights i have been studying 'The Flash Companion' written by Keith Dallas and published by TwoMorrows Publishing.
The book is an incredibly detailed look at the scarlet speedsters; Jay Garrick, Barry Allen, Wally West and Bart Allen. The book also looks at the Flash's Rogues Gallery and the incredible creators who have shaped him into one of the most important characters in all of comics.
Over the next few weeks I will be posting my favorite or 'must read' Flash stories, because there is more to this character than the hero that ushered in the Silver Age (Showcase # 4), sacrificed himself for the universe (Crisis # 8) and with 'Flashpoint', redefined DC Comics for the 'New 52'.
Currently, 'The Flash' has been one of the most consistently good books since the relaunch. Creators Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato have done an amazing job helping new fans discover the magic and older fans (like me) feel like they haven't been forgotten.
As a young fan I was first attracted to the Flash because of his bright red costume and the fact that his power was speed! Every Saturday morning I would pray (literally) that The Flash would be the special guest on 'The Super Friends' and along with Captain America and Batman, The Flash was the only superhero I read and followed.
Listen for my interview with Keith Dallas on an upcoming episode of Secret Identity as well as a detailed review of his book in an upcoming 'Trade Off" segment.
