Valiant Brings Back The Glory

In the mid 1990's Valiant Comics made a huge splash on the market. Founded by Jim Shooter and Bob Layton, Valiant became an instant hit featuring licensed books like 'Turok', 'Magnus Robot Fighter' and 'Solar'.

As big name creators Barry Windsor - Smith, David Lapham, Mark Waid and John Ostrander came into the fold, books like 'Archer and Armstrong', 'Bloodshot', and ''Harbinger' were an instant smash, some selling over 500,000 copies per issue. Personnel and management issues as well as a soft comic market drove the company out of business and fans of Valiant thought they may never see their favorite characters again.

Last year it was announced that Valiant would return in 2012 and to be honest I wasn't interested at all! But when i saw Joshua Dysart was writing 'Harbinger' i decided to take a chance...and i'm so thankful I did.

'Harbinger' # 1 - What happens when a troubled teen has the power to manipulate minds? Awesome reading is what happens. If you like creepy characters, sleazy locales and beautiful art than Joshua Dysart and Khari Evans have the perfect book for you. 4.5 out of 5

'Bloodshot' # 1 - Fans of the Punisher and Jonah Hex will absolutely love this book! A surprisingly deep and emotional story filled with a high body count. Win Win! Writer Duane Swierczynski is blessed to have Manuel Garcia, Arturo Lozzi and Matt Ryan turning his scripts into cinematic beauty. 5 out of 5

'Archer and Armstrong' # 1 - Writer Fred Van Lente and artist Clayton Henry have proven track records in the industry, so that made me comfortable enough to take a chance on this unknown property to me. Amazing! Historical, Political and Religious...what's not to love here. 5 out of 5

Bottom line, if you didn't give these books a chance because of the Valiant name, FIX THIS! You won't be disappointed.

Whaaaaa? No Eternal Warrior? I used to really enjoy that book, although I believe Archer and Armstrong are his brothers (or one of them is)?

I read harbinger and bloodshot. Harbinger was good but not the type of story I usually get into. Bloodshot was great. Added it to my pull list.

I loved the old version was getting them all. Have almost all of them. I've tried the first couple issues and enjoyed they all so far. Wil probably grab them in trade form as that is what I am moving to lately. My favorite was Archer and Armstrong. In fact when the second wave came my first letter was published in an issue of Eternal Warriors. It contained both Eternal Warrior and Archer and Armstrong in one comic.
