Last week I did a review on TEEN TITANS #5 and after I thought about my mostly negative thoughts... i began to have even more!!!
For those who don't know me and my comic loves, TEEN TITANS has been my favorite team since I discovered Kid Flash belonged to a team. In the 1970's the team was the classic Robin, Speedy, Kid Flash, Wonder Girl and Aqua Lad and was an amazing team trying to find their way in the superhero world; dealing with powers, love and typical teen problems.
In the 1980's George Perez and Marv Wolfman brought the team to new heights and made of comic's most definitive runs with the NEW TEEN TITANS. Added were Starfire, Cyborg, Raven and Beast Boy who defined the team and in my opinion, still defines the team.
I know I'm older now but I don't think the essence of the team should be changed. Other than the addition of some new heroes I don't care much about, the team is unlikeable! All superhero teams need to have at least one jerky character, now the current team has THEM ALL jerky! It is impossible to read!
The creative team of writer Will Pfeifer and artist Scott Hepburn are just not getting it. The art (at least for me) doesn't fit the book and Will's writing just seems to be... there! Nothing spectacular and Will usually is a fantastic writer.
It just seems like the TEEN TITANS series is following in the path of a lot of the New 52; inconsistant stories and not quite getting a handle on the characters.
Want a great DC team book? Try SUICIDE SQUAD! Everyone is a jerk on this team but that is OK!
